National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) - [Formerly National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH)] was established in the year 1984 at Manovikasnagar, Secunderabad (TS) is an Autonomous Body under the administrative control of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is a statutory body that regulates and standardizes training programs for disability rehabilitation and special education in India. The Central Rehabilitation Register (CRR) is a database maintained by RCI, listing all registered rehabilitation professionals and personnel. Each registered individual receives a unique CRR No., which serves as proof of their registration and authorizes them to practice in the field. The CRR No. is mandatory for working as a rehabilitation professional in India, signing certificates, and providing expert evidence in court related to disabilities, as per the RCI Act of 1992.
